The top edge of the pocket flap should be even with the bottom edge of the lappel, and the top of the side vent. Once you have looped the pocket flaps, turn and press a quarter inch of the top edge to the inside. The flap should be sewn with a topstitch on the sides and bottom, and a whipstitch on the top edge. BUT FIRST - PUT THE BUTTONS ON! On the next page you will see that I put the buttons on after I put the pocket flap on, by punching through the pocket flap and coat body. That was a mistake. I fear that the button shanks will rub through the lining fabric. If you put the buttomns on the pocket flap first, the button shanks will rub against the coat body.
