In Sheffield

Sheffield was the last stop on the Havercake March. Like many modern city centers, it is a confusing array of one-way streets. We were very late getting there, and drove the streets in our wigs and smallclothes. Asking directions at one point, a man pointed to a building directly behind us and told us that it's "400 yards that way, but I can't tell you how to get here from here!". We ended up cirtcling the city again, and found ourselves on a street where the police were diverting traffic away from the assembly area. Happily, one of the Sergeants from the Dukes saw us and waved us in. We dressed in a flash, and joined the column as it marched in! In this photo, Sjt. Savage has just run into position after the band had started and the column had stepped off!
