Carefully fold the cuffs and lappels into the correct position. I use a pencil to mark where the buttons should be. Here, you can see that I have punched holes for the button shanks, and threaded linen tape through the holes in the button shanks. I tacked down the linen tape on the inside of the coat body. Please note that you should not see the tapes for the pocket flaps.

This is the first time I have used the tape method to attach buttons. All things considered, I do not find this to be any easier than just sewing the buttons to the coat.
